"Leon "Lee" Sherban died on August 25th, 2011 in Portland, Oregon. He was 91 years old and succumbed to complications of Alzheimer's disease.
He was born in Portland on May 28th, 1920, to Nick and Mary Sherban, who had emigrated to this country from Roumania.
Lee graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School on January 20, 1939. He was a proud veteran of military service with the 41st Infantry during the second World War, and went on to earn his degree in Electrical Engineering from Oregon State College (now Oregon State University). His professional life was dedicated to the Portland General Electric Company, working on many major power projects over more than thirty years until he retired in March of 1982 as Chief Field Engineer for Electrical Maintenance and Construction. He was a Professional Engineer in the state of Oregon.
Lee was an innovative and enthusiastic problem solver who loved to reminisce about building his house on Marquam Hill, and about later efforts to preserve that area. He was a private pilot and an "early adopter" of the Macintosh computer. He belonged to the Palestine Masonic Lodge in Portland.
Lee was married to his beloved wife Cora (Jensen) for almost 50 years until her death in 1999. They are buried together at the Riverside cemetery. In accordance with his wishes there were no services.
While Lee had no patience for what he viewed as poor performance-especially whenever it was his own-he also possessed an enduring good humor that was with him to the end, and will be missed.
He left no family. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
