Leonard Hicks Sr. was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was the only child of Maceo Hicks and Anna Mae Ellis.
Leonard served two terms in the United States Army, which he fought in the Vietnam War, with his last term ending in 1967.
In 1968 Leonard moved to Portland, Oregon, where he met the love of his life, Jessecia Hicks. Leonard and Jessecia married on August 24, 1973. Together they have three boys, Carlton, Christopher, Leonard Jr. and one girl, Michelle.
Leonard was a huge sports enthusiast. His favorite basketball team was the Portland Trailblazers. He was a people person, wherever he went everyone knew and loved him.
Leonard was a hard worker who retired from Legacy Emanuel Hospital in 2004 after working there for 25 years.
Leonard is survived by his stepmother Helena Hicks of Florissant, Missouri. His wife of 45 years Jessecia Hicks. His sons Carlton Johnson, Christopher Hicks, Leonard Hicks Jr., daughter Michelle Hicks, and Stefania Johnson, wife of Carlton.
Leonard leaves behind five grandchildren DeShawn, Deonte’, Mykala, Damoni, and Serena. Also, two great grandchildren Amelia, and Dante’. In addition, Leonard is survived by many nephews, nieces, friends, and caregivers who loved him dearly.
