Lois and her identical twin Doris were born in 1932 to George and Clara Gibson in San Benito, Texas, a small town in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The twins joined sister Ann, three years their senior. Lois lived in San Benito until she was 12, when her family moved to San Antonio. A year later the family moved to Denver, CO. After less than a year in Denver the family moved to Oakland, CA, where Lois graduated from San Leandro High School.
While in high school, she and her twin sister began fashion modeling. They continued to model while attending classes at UC Berkley and the California School of Arts and Crafts. Lois excelled in painting and art classes, a passion that defined much of her adult life. Lois and Doris became stewardesses for American Airlines in the early 1950s. Lois stayed with American until she married Richard "Dick" Lucey, whom she met at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA. Dick was a mechanical engineer and U.S. Navy pilot from NJ. They married in June 1955 in Oakland. Their first child, Richard Douglas "Doug" was born Jan. 1, 1957. Son, Kevin was born in 1958 and daughter, Robin in 1959.
In 1964 Lois and Dick moved the family to Portland, eventually settling in Portland Heights. She and Dick introduced the children to tennis, a sport Lois and the rest of the family enjoyed. Lois was great fun to be around. As Lois often said, her greatest joy in life was being a mother. When the children were grown, Lois ran an antique business out of various antique malls in Portland. The business satisfied her love of beautiful art, antiques and sharing her finds with others.
Lois is survived by her son, Kevin Lucey of Portland; her daughter, Robin Dunleavy (Francis); and three granddaughters. Other survivors include her twin sister, Doris Haynes of Longview, Texas; and older sister, Ann Geich of Medford, OR. Lois was preceded in death by her husband Dick and her son Doug. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, at St. Marys Cathedral and a celebration of life at 12:30 p.m. at the Multnomah Athletic Club. Please join us.
