Loren Edwin Studer, "Stu," was born in Stewart, Minnesota. After graduating from St. Olaf College, Loren received graduate degrees from the University of Colorado and Temple University.
During World War II, he was stationed in New Guinea as a lab technician with the 19th Medical General Laboratory where he conducted research on Malaria. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal for service.
Loren taught chemistry at Grant High School, Clackamas Community College, and Portland State University. He was a long time member of the American Chemical Society. He loved to swim, play bridge, entertain, drink martini's, and travel.
Loren is survived by his three children: Julie Gage (John) of Portland, OR; Amy Studer (John Halaka) of San Diego, CA; Paul Studer (Maria) of Las Vegas, NV, and seven grandchildren: Alex Studer, Loren Studer, Adam Gage, Anna Gage, Emily Halaka, Claire Halaka, Isabelle Halaka. He is preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Ella Studer, sister Carol Bredeson, and wife Carolyn.
Loren was buried at Willamette National Cemetery. The memorial service is scheduled for October 8th, 11:00 a.m. at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 10445 SW Canterbury Lane, Tigard, OR 97224. Memorial gifts may be given in Loren's name to Calvin Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice.
