Louis Edwin Rummel
April 5, 1935 – July 14, 2015
Louis Edwin Rummel was born on April 5, 1935 to Edwin and Elizabeth (Gutzman) Rummel in Wabeno, Wisconsin. He died on July 14, 2015 at Providence Medical Center in Portland, after fighting a brave 14 month battle with throat cancer. He moved to Portland when he was a young child and resided with his Mother and Stepfather, John Mallow. Lou was married to Elizabeth (Betty) M. Wilson June 10, 1967. They were married for 27 years until her death in 1994.
Between 1958 and 1966, Lou very proudly served in the US Army; active duty for 2 years and reserve duty for 6 years. He was decorated as an Expert Marksman (carbine and rifle) and awarded a Good Conduct Medal for his service.
In 1953, Lou began working for Portland Public Schools. He enjoyed his work as a custodian at many different schools during his 44 years of employment, ending at Rose City Elementary when he retired in 1997.
Lou was an avid outdoorsman. He loved deer and elk hunting and was a lifelong fisherman. He loved spending time at Pine Hollow Resort, fishing on the lake and being with friends.
Lou has been laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery beside his wife Betty. He is survived by his many friends who will miss him greatly. Remembrances can be made to Providence Portland Cancer Center.
