Lourdes “Lou” Maria Rother (b. 4/10/1944, d. 8/6/2021) was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She enjoyed raising her family, creating festive crafts, hosting gatherings, traveling with her husband and reading many great books. She was born in Key West, and grew up in her family home in Miami. After graduating from high school, Lou enrolled in the United States Air Force and served honorably during the Vietnam War Era from 1964 to 1968. She met the love of her life, Gary Rother and they married on May 8, 1971. Lou and Gary proudly celebrated their 50-year wedding anniversary in May 2021. Lou was a dedicated and strong mother who helped raise their two sons, Andrew and Steven, with a sense of kindness, purpose and integrity. Lou spent the majority of her career working as a secretary in the Portland Public Schools, serving 24 years before retiring in 2007.
Lou most enjoyed her time with her granddaughter. She liked to travel to Europe, the Women In Military Service of America Memorial in Washington D.C., as well as many trips across the country by RV and cruise lines, with her husband. Having Lou in our lives was truly a gift. Her smile, bright green eyes, and approach to life has inspired us all. She will be loved, she will be missed, and she will be celebrated.
Lou is survived by her husband Gary Rother, and her son Andrew Rother, his wife and daughter and son Steven Rother, her brother Albert Crespo, loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her mother & father.
There will be a small private graveside service for family and close friends on August 25th at 2:00 pm, followed by a celebration of life at her home at approximately 4:00 pm.
