Lucille Lind

September 14, 1920 to March 16, 2017

Lucille Erickson was born in Portland on Sept. 14, 1920, to John Erickson and Margit Trondsen Erickson and grew up in SE Portland, graduating from Franklin High School.   She attended Oregon State University where she majored in math and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega.  She later worked for Standard Oil as a comptometer operator.   She married Gordon Lind in 1945 and in 1952 they moved to Hillsboro, where they raised their four children and resided for several decades.

Community service and philanthropy were important to Lucille.  She served on the Hillsboro Library Board throughout the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s, was a member of the Assistance League of Portland, working in their NW Portland thrift store and their Beaverton consignment shop, and she was an active member of P.E.O.

Lucille remained a sharp bridge player into her 90’s and was still playing golf in her 80’s, and in fact she had her first hole-in-one at the age of 84.  She and Gordon moved to Claremont in 1996, as golf was a large part of their life.  She also enjoyed reading, politics, knitting and sewing and was a gifted flower arranger, always having fresh flowers in the house.  She and Gordon also loved spending time at their beach house.  To the end, Lucille retained her ability to banter and have fun and she will always be remembered for her ready smile.

She was preceded in death by Gordon in 2005.  Survivors include her children, Eric (Marcia) Lind, Margi Lind, Jeff (Mary Kay) Lind and Leslie Nibley as well as 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  A family service has already been held.
