Lucious Bain Jr., (Lu) was born September 2, 1942, in Paint Rock, Alabama, to the late Lucious Sr. and Margaret Genevieve Bain; He was the fourth of nine children.
The family moved to Vancouver, Washington in late 1943, where his father was employed by Kaiser Shipyard.
Lu attended elementary, Junior High and High School in Vancouver, Washington. In his senior year he was voted Student Body President of Fort Vancouver High School. He was the first black to be elected President of the student body. He was also a star football player, where he earned a scholarship to the University of Oregon, graduating with a B.S. and M.S, in Education. Lu accepted Christ at the age of fourteen, witnessing and leading peers to Christ, He studied the Bible under Mrs. Florine DuFresne of the Methodist Church of Vancouver, Washington. Lu played football with such Oregon greats as Ronald Martin, Judge Ancer Haggerty and Mel Renfro, just to name a few.
After graduation Lu moved to Calgary Alberta, Canada where he played in the Canadian professional football league with the Calvary Alberta Stampeders. After leaving the football league he taught overseas for 3-5 years. Lu also taught for a short time in Phoenix, Arizona.
Upon returning back to Portland he began teaching at Whittaker Middle School and Grant High School. He also subbed in several teaching positions. Lu retired from teaching 2005. After retirement he worked as a Casual Longshoreman.
Lu met and married Susan O'Riley of Calgary Alberta, Canada. They later divorced. He later married Patricia Andrews and to this union was born a son Lucious Bain III, better known as "FeetA�A�A�, who drowned in the Columbia River at the age of seven years.
Later, he became the owner of the Higher Ground Tavern. After the closing of the tavern he returned to his favorite career of teaching. He also umpired for the City of Portland Slow Pitch League.
Fisherman Lu tried his hand at deep sea fishing on his boat with his good friends Fred, Marlene, and Vannoy on the Oregon Coast,
Other pastimes were playing football, cribbage, dominoes and bingo.
Lu leaves to mourn his death four brothers, Frank Bain, Portland, Oregon, Huarleen (Shirley), Herman, and David Bain all of Vancouver, Washington, and two sisters, Ida Bain Greenidge (Harcourt) and Margaret Bain-Hall (Teddy) both of Portland, Oregon, Uncle Rev. Calvin D. Sammons of Dallas, Texas, several nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces, and a host of cousins.
