Luther Jr. was the third child and only son born to Luther L. Sr. and Esdella C. Jackson, both of whom have gone to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In addition, Luther now joins his sister Verda, in Heaven!
He attended Irvington Elementary and Grant High Schools.
Did you know, during Luther’s formative years, he was a cub scout? Later in life, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, attended Southern Oregon College and even had a tryout with the then, World Football League, The Portland Storm.
Luther was employed a great deal of his life as a gifted long haul, 18-wheel truck driver. He also worked for Lakeside Industries, Gunderson, Reddaway and the City of Portland as a heavy equipment operator.
I tallied his children to see what fun-facts they vividly remember about their dad. Here is what they said:
Tina : He was a Dallas Cowboys fan, loved playing “Bones” Dominoes, would smile, when necessary, always trying to appear hard, and he loved Teddy Pendergrass.
Luther, III : He liked to play pool Dominoes, chest, and football. He listened to Isaac Hayes’ Hot buttered soul, Tupac, Luther Vandross, The Isley Brothers, Levert and he liked to tell jokes. My dad was a teacher, friend, provider, protector and he was a gangster.
Idris : His sport: Football and Boxing. His Favorite games were cards, billiards, and Dominoes. He was a jokester, and he smiled a lot. His Favorite song was anything with a great Baseline.
Chelsea : Dad’s sports were football; he was a Dallas Cowboys fan, and boxing (we grew up watching Evander Holyfield and Oscar De La Hoya). Dad was a jokester! One of dad’s favorite pastimes was to BBQ for the people he loved and cared for, including my birthday in July at Blue Lake Park, and The 4th of July. These were times he mastered the BBQ grill bringing family and friends together, to unite and enjoy each other.
Vanessa : Playing dominoes and memories of him playing the “Shoop song” by Salt-N-Pepa in the truck when we would go places.
As a child, Luther received Jesus Christ as Lord! He was brought up and attended Vancouver Avenue First Baptist Church. In 2000, he rededicated his life to Jesus. He was a praying man!
Luther Lee Jackson, Jr. was born June 10, 1952. He left this world and transitioned to be with Jesus on October 14, 2022. Luther was fruitful and multiplied. He leaves the following to laugh and celebrate his life; his daughter Tina, her husband, Kenneth, their four children, Marcus, Kenalia, Kenalo and Micah.
