Margaret Ellen (Myers) Olson

A Celebration of Life Service will be held, 2pm, Saturday, January 25th at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 290 W. Gloucester St, Gladstone. Margaret passed away, surrounded by her family’s love, January 11, 2014 in Portland, she was 77 years old. Margaret Ellen was born In Vincennes, Indiana on May 30, 1936, the only child of Austin and Louise (Cook) Myers. The family moved to the Portland in 1947 where Margaret attended Sellwood and Cleveland schools. She received her teaching degree from Portland State and began her 37 year career in Portland School system in 1958 teaching first and second grade children she loved. Active in Association for Childhood Education for many years, she co-chaired a national convention in Portland. Margaret was very active in the Lutheran Church serving in so many ways and she also volunteered at SnowCap food charities for many years. Margaret stayed close to her Indiana roots, visiting family many times. Her annual book sales were famous as she raised money for new books for kids. Margaret is survived by the love of her life, husband Frank of 53 years, daughter; Jodie and her husband Nick Katsinis and son; Jay and his wife Trisha, two grandchildren; Phillip and Sarah, sister-in-law Elaine Brockbank. The family request remembrances to Lutheran World Relief in Margaret’s memory.
