Marian was born in Foreston, Minnesota on July 19, 1918. She was the eldest daughter of Myron and Clara Northway. Three brothers (Llewellyn, Leo and Ruben) and three sisters (Leona, Dorothy and Bonnie) preceded her in death as did her husband, Arnold.
She is survived by two sons, Arlen and Darrell, their wives Sharon and Shirley, and three grandchildren (John, Christina and Scott).
Marian worked in a machinist's office in the shipyards, at Rexall Drug Warehouse and at ILWU Local 8. After the death of her husband, she returned to college at Monmouth. She retired in 1983 from teaching in the Reynolds School District. Before her marriage, she taught for six years in Minnesota.
She was a member and officer of the Oregon Retired Educators Association Unit 29 for many years. She enjoyed playing cards with a Pinochle group for over 50 years and with a Whist card group for many years.
She often spoke of her caring neighbors and others who helped her in times of need. At age 91 she moved from her home in Portland to Summerplace Assisted Living Community. Then, in November of 2019 at the age of 101, she moved to Lyle, Washington where she spent her remaining days with family and friends.
The Aleckson family extends their gratitude to the caring staff of Heart of Hospice, Hood River. Thank you for all of your kind service to Marian.
