Marjorie Marie Burt was the first of two children born to William and Christine (Doern) Burt, in Portland, Oregon. She attended Grant High School. Marjorie was an usherette at the St. Johns Theater. She sat a young man named Vernon Russell Hindley in his seat for almost a year before he had the courage to ask her out. Vernon and Marjorie were then married in Vancouver, Washington in 1940. They honeymooned at the beach. The couple would have three children: Bill, Larry, and Suzy. Marjorie enjoyed being a full time mother and friend to her children.
Marjorie was a faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Portland for over 75 years. Her life was helping others, whether it was through the church, mowing a lawn, or volunteering at Loaves and Fishes. One of her favorite jobs was working in the election office every four years.
Marjorie loved her family and especially her grand children. For the past five months, Marjorie was living at Powell Valley Assisted Living in Gresham, Oregon. Words cannot express the gratitude her family has for all of their special care and love they showed to Marjorie over the years. She leaves to mourn: Sons and their wives, Bill and Jewell Hindley, Larry and Carol Hindley; her daughter and her husband Suzy and Chris Wright; her brother, Harold Burt; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make memorial contributions, in honor of Marjorie, at Loaves and Fishes, Meals On Wheels People, 7710 S.W. 31st Ave., Portland, OR 97219. Your kindness is very much appreciated. "A life truly lived, is a life not forgotten"
