1921 - 2014
Marjorie Hilda Hudson, born September 26, 1921, passed away on March 11, 2014, in Portland, Oregon, peacefully and with dignity in the arms of her son Rick.
Born in Kimball, Nebraska, to John and Osa Cheesman, Marge grew up with her parents, her sister Violet and a pet pig on the edge of the dustbowl during the great depression. Marge managed to survive the rigors of the Great Plains, graduated high school, and left Nebraska to work for the War Department during WWII. She worked both in Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, California. She took with her a love of the outdoors and sunlight and animals.
During the war, to make ends meet, Marge had a small hosiery repair business. Following the war, Marge moved to Denver, Colorado where she married Hayden Hudson in 1946. While raising her son Rick and daughters Janice and Marla, she enjoyed excellence in sewing, gardening, making family dinners, baking great pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls, and pizza. During these years she managed to adopt many dogs, always caring for them with affection and compassion.
During her professional life she worked as seamstress, bookkeeper, clerk and administrator; she retired in 1992 from Auraria Higher Education Center, where she worked for many years as a school administrator.
Marge’s primary passion in life was the care, protection and support of her family. Of the many ways she showed her love, she is most fondly remembered for her generous, powerful, and long-lasting hugs. She is survived by her children Rick Hudson, Janice Cookman, and Marla Biberstine, her grand children Sean (Cody) Hudson, Dain Hudson, Jamie (Takis) Stoilis, Joshua Malouf, and Deana (Tim) Dean, nieces and nephews Linda Coulter/Danny Morris, Pam/Herb Zimmerman, Wendy/Mark Ferg, and Gary/Molly Coulter, as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Marge’s Life will be held in Portland, Oregon, at 3:00 pm on Sunday March 30 at Montevilla Methodist Church, 232 SE 80th Ave., Portland, Oregon.
Marge will be laid to rest beside her mother and sister on April 26, 2014, in Colorado. There will be a graveside gathering at 11:00 am at Littleton Cemetery, 6155 S. Prince St., Littleton, CO 82120. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will follow at Maggiano’s Restaurant, 7401 S. Clinton St., Englewood, CO 80012.
