Martha Mel O'Neal was born January 26, 1943 in Marshfield, OR to Melvin L. & Norma D. (Wirth) Wheaton. She spent her childhood growing up in Marshfield, Myrtle Creek and Portland, where she graduated from David Douglas High School. In early June of 1961 she married Robert Lee O'Neal. During their 53 years of marriage Bob's job with the government found them living in Germany, Okinawa, Pakistan, Woodbridge, VA and finally returning to Portland in 1986 when he retired.
Martha loved to sew and was an accomplished seamstress. She so enjoyed working on quilting projects at home as well as with her Scrappy Sisters and the Clackamas Quilters Club. She entered her creations in many fairs and shows winning multiple ribbons for her efforts. She and Bob also enjoyed many years camping in their trailer spending quality time with friends and family. She spent thousands of hours volunteering at the Portland Adventist Hospital gift shop and the Portland Adventist Thrift Shop over the years.
Dogs were also a big part of her life. She dearly loved Hey-u, Suzy, Topaz, Vicky, Amos and Annie. They were constant and dear loved companions throughout the years.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by daughter Lemel (Rob) Moyer of Clackamas, grandchildren Arielle, Austin, Ashlyn, brothers Doug (Karen) Wheaton of Happy Valley and Burl (Marty) Wheaton of Albany.
