Mary Ella Ferguson, 84, of Portland, Oregon, died the 19th of January, 2025. She lived a beautiful, full life. Filled with joy and surrounded by family and friends that loved her dearly. She was born on October 25, 1940 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Willie Cheeks and Arthur Hammonds. As a child, she relocated to Vanport and eventually settling in Portland. She was married in April of 1967 to Hart Edward Ferguson at the family home at 4324 NE 14th Ave, Portland, Oregon. Together, they shared 9 years of marriage until his passing. During her time with us, she studied Nursing and obtained Bachelor of Nursing from Portland State University. Years later, she became a Reading Support Teacher with Portland Public Schools, of which she was able to retire from. She was an avid reader, loved to travel, and cook. Enjoyed getting together with friends (Carolyn and Brenda) for game nights, attending events at the Elks Lodge, gardening, painting, drawing. What she loved the most, was her football. She was also a dedicated member of her church, Mt. Olivet in Portland, Oregon. What Mary loved the most was the color purple - flowers, jewelery, even her home, at one point was purple. She loved elephants and had a collection of figurines that were throughout her home. Trunks pointed up for good luck, of course.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie & Arthur Hammonds, Husband, Hart Ferguson, and her sister in law Junell Faciane.
Her survivors include her daughter - Leesa Ferguson, son - Hart Ferguson, grandchildren - A’Leesia Ferguson-Richey, Shanacie Traxler, and Tobias Ferguson.
