Mary E. Richard

Mary Ella Richard passed away peacefully Thursday, March 17, 2016, in Portland, Oregon at the age of 100.
Mary was born on March 22, 1916 in Chatham, Louisiana, but later moved to Southeast Portland in 1948 with her husband Sam Richard. Mary and Sam raised three children together; Ruby, Liz and Herbert. Her son Herbert is now the only remaining survivor of her immediate family; however, Mary is survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Throughout her life she enjoyed fishing, traveling and a passion for singing in religious choirs along the west coast. Also known for her exceptional cooking and baking, Mary's specialty was her sweet potato pies. She was a friendly and generous-natured person who was always on the go.
Mary was a caring friend, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
