Mary Ruth Sanders-Miller

August 9, 1948 — January 11, 2013

Mary was born in Canton, Mississippi, to Percy and Mattie Lou Sanders. She was raised in LaPorte, Indiana and later moved to Chicago, Illinois where she graduated from high school. Mary moved to Portland in 1977 with her family. She attended Mt. Hood College and received a degree in Psychology.
On January 30, 1981, Mary married James Dunn Miller. Mary worked in many social service fields such as Non Profit Organizations; in Chicago she worked for the Saint Leonard's House, in Portland: Yaun Group Home, YWCA, and Insights Teen Parent Program. Mary was a member of the Portland Elks Temple, 1379. She also taught art classes for youth in the community. Mary was an exceptional artist. She loved all forms of art including interior decorating, ceramics, sketching and portraits.
Mary is survived by her son: Romero Sanders; sisters: Percy L. Burse and Alberta Womack; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: James Dunn Miller; sisters: Erdell Small, Mary C. Jones, Christine Kimble, Louella Winston, Willie Mae Winston, and Matteal Glover.
The family wishes to thank The Park Forest Care Center and Kaiser Permanente staff, for their unconditional love and care for Mary.
