Maxine passed away peacefully in her home on the early hours of September 30, 2013, surrendering her spirit after a courageous year long battle with lymphoma and cancer.
She was born September 24, 1934 to Harry and Helen Treacle in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Depression era economics kept her family on the move through Texas and Missouri. She graduated from high school in Springfield, Missouri before relocating with family to Portland, Oregon at age 18. She lived in and around the Portland area until her passing, making many lifelong friends and raising her family and touching the lives of many.
Maxine loved people and conversation. She had a gift for serving others and finding ways to touch their life. This led her to a successful career in real estate where she served the needs of clients and supported co-workers for more than 25 years before retiring to concentrate on home and family. She particularly cherished the time she spent with family and loved being able to care for grandchildren during their early school years.
Maxine is survived by Michael Fanning, her loving husband of 36 years. Children include Sue Fawver of Jersey City, New Jersey; Steve Fawver of Boring, Oregon, and Susan Rohwein of Bremerton, Washington. Her four grandchildren are Kristin Fawver, Greg Fawver, Erin Rohwein and Katie Rohwein. Maxine's brother Ron preceded her in death.
Maxine encouraged and impacted many lives with her spirit and strength. She loved life, and never wanted to be a spectator. She enjoyed traveling, with her visit to Italy, road trips around the Southwest U.S., Baja, Hawaii and the Oregon Coast creating special memories that she loved to share. Her fight with the cancer was a source of inspiration to those who knew her. She remains an inspiration even in passing, and her life and spirit will continue to touch those who knew her and loved her.
A Celebration of Life gathering for Maxine will be at Rose City Funeral Home Chapel, 11:00A.M., Saturday, November 2, 2013.
