Maxine Talley died on Aug. 13, 2009, in her home of causes related to age. Born Billie Maxine Tice on June 9, 1926, in Mississippi (Prentiss County), she lived in Portland since 1964. A homemaker when her children were young, Maxine worked in a family-owned business in the 1970s and for the Yaw's restaurants in the early 1980s.
Know as Max, Billie, Scarlett and most cherished, Nana, our Mother never met a stranger. If you had the joy of meeting her, you were likely to become a friend for life. Although she bacame a true Portlander, she always kept her southern charm. She spent many days baking pies and cakes for friends and neighbors and cooking her favorite southern dishes for Sunday dinner. Mother loved to have fun, visit, garden and dance. We have lost a source of great joy in our lives.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Patricia Speelman, Sarah Cooper, Barbara Stefani and Oma Rebecca Walsh, son-in-law Mike Speelman, Steve Cooper and Larry Walsh, grandchildren, Kristin Parker and husband Larry, Danielle Stefani, Jessica Stefani, Abra Cooper, Brennan Cooper, Cara Cooper and her great-grandchildren, Alyssa Parker, Kaylee Parker, Jonah Hite and Hunter Parker. Her husband, Troy Hill Talley, preceded her in death.
Our family wishes to thank the compassionate staff of the Oregon Kidney Center and Providence Hospice and all of Mother's friends and neighbors for their care and kindness. If you would like to make a donation in memoray on Maxine, please consider the American Red Cross
