Melissa's loving family surrounded her as she passed away on April 5 in Longview, Washington at the age of fifty-four. Funeral Services are at Bethel Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 13 at 3pm, followed by a celebration of life at the same location. The address is 5658 North Denver Avenue Portland, Oregon. A wake precedes the funeral at the Rose City Funeral Home on Friday, April 12 from 6 to 8pm. A closing committal is at the same location on Monday, April 15 at 2pm.
Born on May 27, 1958 in Portland, Oregon to Paul Curtis Leonard and Myrtle Alvida (Johnson) Peterson, Melissa was the third of six children. Her parents raised her in North Portland where she graduated from Jefferson High School in 1976. She met the love of her life, a member of the United States Navy named Dennis Law, in the late seventies and by May 1, 1981, they married in Vancouver, Washington.
Melissa was a resident of Scappoose, Oregon for the last fifteen years of her life. She was a Master Planner at Siltronic Corporation for over thirty-three years. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening, hiking, bird watching and Scandinavian folk dancing. Family and friends were most important to her and rarely was there a moment when she was not helping others in some way.
Melissa's husband of thirty-one years survives her, as well as her children; Alexander and Melanie and her brothers; Curtis, Palmer, Perry, and Pascal. Her brother Peter precedes her in death.
Following the funeral, the public is welcome to join the family for a reception in the church's basement. You may wish to bring food or drinks to share while we are together. Beer and wine are certainly acceptable. This is a celebration of life, so we hope that many will attend to show the family or any other witnesses just how much they loved Melissa.
