Obituary of Michael Franklin PAGELER
Mike Pageler was born December 28, 1955 in Portland and passed away at the age of 61 in Longview, Washington on February 10, 2017.
Mike married the love of his life, Lisa Grace Hamlin in Carson City, Nevada on August 1, 2000; they resided in Scappoose, Oregon.
He served in the United States Navy with his last duty assignment on the USS Inchon, LPH-12, as a radioman. This was appropriate as Mike will always be remembered for his intelligence, quick wit, hilarious stories, jokes, and diatribes focused on unfair labor and management attacks directed at the working class.
Mike’s last job was as an organizer for the SEIU local 503. This work was Mike’s calling, as he took great pride not only in his union affiliation but in organizing workers not represented by a union. He relished defending unionized workers, could quickly see both sides of a dispute, and was always at his happiest to be there for a worker who was being treated wrongfully by management.
Mike is survived by his wife; Lisa, stepmom; Barbara Pageler, stepbrother; Christopher, Brother; John (Monica) Pageler, Mark (Phyllis) Cooper, Mark (Doreen) Hamlin and his three aunts, numerous nieces and nephews and his many many friends. He really enjoyed being “Uncle Mike” and loved his family.
He’s pre-deceased by his parents; John Paul and Patricia Jean (Huskey) Pageler, and step-dad Ernest Cooper.
A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held, 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 12th at the SEIU union Hall, 6401 SE Foster Rd, Portland, OR 97206, with a potluck and storytelling to follow.
