Monica Drayer-Jones was born on October 20, 1957 in Portland, Oregon. She was the 4th of five children and the 2nd girl born to Evelyn Johnson and Eddie Drayer Sr. She departed this life in the arms of her loving husband Joe Jones on May 10th, 2012.
Monica attended Humboldt Elementary School, Boise Middle School, and Jefferson High School. All in Portland, Oregon. Monica also studied Interior Design at Portland Community College.
In 1976, while out with her mother and sister for her birthday, Monica met the love of her life Joe Jones. She then moved to California with him, where they lived in San Francisco and Richmond before moving back to Portland in 1980. After a long courtship Monica and Joe were married in December 1999.
Earlier in her life Monica worked in dry cleaning, and also in hospitality services. Monica spent her time being an excellent homemaker, a good wife, and an attentive daughter. She loved her nieces and nephews most of all. Nicknamed Poncho by her parents for reasons unknown, the name stuck with her thru her life and seemed so fitting for her spunky personality. Monica enjoyed being the hostess. She was always cooking for and entertaining her friends and family. She was continually brightening up her surroundings by applying her interior design skills, and was known for her immaculate home. Monica shared a love of gardening and flowers with her husband. She'd just embarked on the chore of beautifying her mother's home, and was happiest when things were done and clean so she could spend the day planting or playing.
Monica leaves a host of friends to mourn along with: her husband, Joe Jones; her father Eddie Drayer, Sr.; two brothers, Eddie Drayer Jr. and Danny Drayer; sister-in-law, Rose Drayer and family; cousin, Deborah Ranae Green and family; cousin, Angela Toussaint and family of Seattle, Washington; uncle, Lloyd Baker and family of Seattle, Washington; uncle Merle Johnson of California; cousin, Alena Vance and family; niece, Ebony Drayer and family; niece Kinnikkia Shea and family of Minnesota; nephew, Ritchie Jones and family; nephew, Dwight Clay and family; and nephew, Eddie Drayer III.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Drayer; sister, Beveline Ross; and her brother, Victor Drayer.
