Nancy Elizabeth Jameson Hunner, born in Portland Oregon on July 16, 1916, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on March 28, 2015 in Yreka, California at the Madrone Hospice House.
Nancy was the fifth child (of six) born to Ida and Miles D. Jameson, descendants of an Oregon Pioneer family. Brothers Donald, Stuart, Gordon (Gordie) and Miles all preceded Nancy in their deaths, as did her dear sister Jean Steib.
Nancy graduated from Milwaulkie High School in 1934 where she had met her future husband, Robert Phillip Hunner. After attending two years of college at Marin College, Nancy and Bob were married and lived in SE Portland in the Belmont District until they found a small cabin in Milwaulkie. They lived in Tacoma Washington for a period of time until they moved to Indianapolis ,Indiana following Bob’s career in the forest industry. The family returned to Portland in 1964 where they purchased a home in the Laurelhurst neighborhood.
Following Robert P. Hunner’s passing in 1978, Nancy continued working at Montgomery Ward for a couple of years and then began her second career as a house mother in the Delta Gamma Sorority House on the Butler University Campus in Indianapolis from which she retired again at the age of 83. Nancy returned full time to the family home in Portland where she volunteered for 10 years at the Hollywood Senior Center and kept busy with family and friends. In December of 2010, Nancy moved to Ashland to be closer to her daughter where she continued to be involved with the community, family and friends.
Our mother loved traveling, sharing stories, exercising her great sense of humor , spending time with family and being a generous and loving mother, grandmother , great grandmother, auntie and great auntie.
Nancy is survived by her three children Nan (Bill Diehl),son, Robert J. Hunner and daughter Lauri A. Hunner. Nancy had three grandchildren, Laura ( Chris Phillips), Beth (Aaron Shelby) and Sarah (Craig Hittle), granddaughter Robyn Perry and grandson Ross Perry. Nancy has nine great grandchildren, Jack, Sam, Will, Kate, Xavier, Isaac, Hannah, Lucy and Jameson; all of whom were hoping that she would live to be at least 100 years old! Nancy is also survived by nieces Sally Aul (Mac), Patty (Ike Damm), Sarah Grey, Linda (Bob Alton), Mary Lou (Marv Rueck), Susan (Joe Kesey), nephew Pete Jameson and numerous great nieces and nephews.
