Obituary of Nellie Grosz

Funeral Services will be held, 2pm, Monday, July 14 th at the Rose City Funeral Home Chapel. Nellie passed away at home surrounded by her family and their love. She was 90 years old. Born May 20, 1924 in Sidney, Montana to Lars Johannes and Gunda Pederson (Mellumbraaten) Borg, Nellie was the youngest of 16 children.  Educated at Sweger and Wallace school she live a distance from school so the board gave her 90 dollars for transportation which she used to by a Shetland pony to travel back and forth. Baptized at the Four Mile Lutheran Church, she was a strong believer her entire life. Her parents moved to the Portland area in the early 1940’s and on February 2, 1942 they sent her $23.00 for train fare to travel to Portland to live with them. Nellie worked at the Episcopal School, St. Helen’s hall, serving as Dining Room Supervisor and salad Maker, while there became a member of the Imanuel Lutheran Church. She and her sister Ruth enjoyed traveling and went back East to the New England state’s Wisconsin, LA, and in 1949 to a train across country boarding the Gripsholm liner for Sweden, spending three months visiting the home her dad built for their mother, a summer home for the Queen of Sweden’s  and many other beautiful sites. After the trip she came back to Portland where she got an apartment on Broadway attended Portland Beauty College worked for Jafee’s Beauty Salon as a beautician. Nellie joined the choir at church and there met Elmer. They were wed on June 21, 1952, he predeceased her in July 17, 1986 after 34 years of marriage.

Nellie is survived by children: Bradley, Bryan, Stuart and Brent, 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Private entombment will be held a the Rose City Cemetery Mausolum.
