Born August 29th, 1921 in Portland, Oregon to Greek immigrant parents, William and Pikio Notos. Nicholas peacefully passed away on April 26, 2011.
Nick graduated from Lincoln High School in Portland, Oregon in 1938 and thereafter attended the University of Oregon. He was a violinist in the University of Oregon Symphony. He then served as an ensign in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Throughout his life he was a member and served on the board at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. In the mid 1950a�(TM)s, he was appointed by the Mayor of Portland, Fred Peterson, as Commission on Intergroup Relations. He was then asked to represent the City as acting mayor along with 55 other mayors from the United States as guests of the Greek Government. Nick worked as a sales manager for many years at Lyman Slack Chevrolet and Lew Williams Cadillac in Portland. He also invested his time as a partner at Sahara Dunes Resort and Casino in Lake Elsinore, California. Nick enjoyed the sport of golf and was a member of Columbia Edgewater Country Club and was an avid bowler and truly loved ballroom dancing.
Survivors include his brother, Sam Notos, and wife Charlene, of Portland and sister, Victoria Reed, of Rancho Mirage, California. He is also survived by two nieces, Cynthia Aschbacher and husband Dana, Pamela Scanlan and husband Sean along with two grand-nieces, Ally Aschbacher and Jacklyn Scanlan and one grand-nephew Mitchell Scanlan. Nick also has many relatives in the United States and in Greece.
A Trisagion service will be on Sunday, May 1st at 7:00pm at Rose City Funeral Home. The funeral service is Monday, May 2nd, at 11:00am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3131 N.E. Glisan Street, Portland, OR.
