Nick Bolos passed away in Portland surrounded by the love of his family.

Bolos, Nick Gus 86 Mar. 24, 1930 June 18, 2016 Nick Gus Bolos was born March 24, 1930, in Portland, to Gus and Thespo Bolos. Nick was the youngest of four children. Nick's parents immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1920s from a small village, Eptahori in Northern Greece. He graduated from Washington High School and then earned his master's degree from the Oregon College of Education. He was a teacher at Abernathy grade school and worked for the Portland School District Administration Office until he retired. Nick was very active in his church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox. He was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent for over 25 years. Nick had a passion for big band jazz music. He was extremely well versed in the history of an extensive list of band leaders and their various players. In the '80s and '90s he became a regular guest on Kaboo's radio jazz show, the "Don Manning Jazz Show." He would host two hour time slots featuring various musicians and background history. Nick loved and adored his jazz world. His all time favorite was Woody Herman. Nick had the pleasure of enjoying Woody a number of times live in concert. He had a great love for basketball as well, always a huge Portland Trail Blazers fan. He enjoyed over 30 years of playing basketball games. Nick leaves behind a legacy of extreme loyalty and kindness to family and friends. He will always be remembered for his thoughtfulness, love, caring, giving and respect for all living creatures on God's earth. He was the definition of a true gentleman. Nick is survived by his daughters, Becki Schamp and Mary Spencer; granddaughters and grandson-in-law, Christina (Nick) Janowski, Katina Rice and Christie Iseki; and great-grandchildren, Jayda Pierce'Rice, Stella Pierce'Rice, Jude Janowski and Olivia Janowski. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Oregon Human Society.
