Nick Krochmal, Sr.
September 25, 1941 – March 27, 2015
Nick’s loving parents, Mychailo Krochmal and Lukia Kaptilova, married and graced the world with Nick and three other children, sons Anatoly and Greg, and daughter Lida.
Nick was born in the county of Pavlohrads’kyi in the Ukrainian city of Dnepropetrovsk. Life there was harsh and due to these conditions, Nick’s brother Anatoly passed. Nick and his family left their home for a better life in Germany. There were some challenges with living in Germany during WWII, but the family fared better and it was here that Nick’s brother and sister, Greg and Lida were born.
The family left Germany to start a new life in Brazil. Nick became a tailor’s apprentice, completed his apprenticeship, and worked as a tailor for the rest of his life. They lived in Brazil for ten years before leaving for the U.S. Here Nick found a final home and on July 20, 1967, he was granted a U.S. Certificate of Naturalization.
In Portland, Oregon Nick worked at a department store, as did Cheryl St. Jeor. He in the tailoring department and she in cosmetics. They met, married, and had three children; Nicholas, Natalie, and Alexander. They were devoted, kind, and profoundly loving parents.
Nick will never be forgotten and will forever be loved and missed.
Nick is survived by his children Nicholas, Natalie, and Alexander Krochmal, his brother Greg Krochmal, his sister Lida Friedenberg, and his grandson Nathan Krochmal.
Nick is preceded in death by Mychailo, Lukia, Anatoly, and Cheryl Krochmal.
