Obituary of Norm Gores
A Celebration of Life Service will be held, 2pm, Monday, March 17 th at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, 4800 NE 72 nd Ave, Portland. Norm passed away March 14 th , he was 84 years old.
Norman Martin Gores was born February 12, 1930 at Rolette, North Dakota the second of four children born to Martin and Anna P. Gores. A graduate of Rolla High School, class of 1948, Norm and the family later moved to Bellingham, Washington. He worked for the railroad fixing the rail lines and later moved to Grants Pass area where he worked many years in plywood mills as a spreader. He married Darlene April 23, 1963 in Ely, Nevada. In 1968 they moved to Portland where he trained to be a body and fender repair man and did this until he retired at 65. Not one to let grass grow beneath his feet he did many other services for others after retirement. He was a volunteer for the NE Portland Emergency Food Bank, an usher for Luther Memorial where he and his wife have attended since 2003, a helpful handyman and worked part time for Wells Fargo Bank. He and Darlene were two peas in a pod. They both enjoyed traveling and travel they did from the Gulf coast states, cruising, and island hopping, and amassing their vast collection of sea shells.
Norm is survived by his bride of almost 51years, Darlene, children; Terry Grant, Betty Kay Stranlund, Shelley Underwood, Diana Lowther, Nancy Morris and Leonard Grant, 14 grandchildren and 11 Great grandchildren, sisters: Carole Garman and Shirley Glover. He is pre-deceased by daughter, Leslie Lynn Kaynor and sister Magdalyn Price.
