Odessa was born April 4, 1915 in Rosston, Arkansas to Ruebin and Daisy Henry. Odessaa(TM)s formal education was in Rosston, Arkansas. She moved to Texarkana, Arkansas where her son Edwin was born, and later to Texarkana, Texas where her daughter Alberta was born. Odessa made her way to Portland in the early 1940a(TM)s to work in the shipyards. She met and married Earl McDonald in Olympia, Washington and they lived in Vanport "until the flood." Odessa was always a kind, loving, and giving person who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. She always saw the good in everyone. Some of Odessaa(TM)s hobbies were gardening and "canning", she loved making applesauce. In her early years she and Earl enjoyed fishing. They grew their own worms for fishing. Everyone "should" remember what it was like going out on summer nights to pick up nightcrawlers. She was also an avid reader. And leta(TM)s not forget those walnuts that she shelled every year for us to enjoy at Christmas. Odessa departed this life on Sunday, November 18, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, her parents Ruebin and Daisy; her siblings: Tom, Otis, Corrine, Ophelia, and Cody; her son Earl, Jr.; and her grandchildren Chris, Tyrone, Larry, and Johnya. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons: Edwin Phillips of Miami, Florida, William T. McDonald of Portland, Oregon, Earl Vernell McDonald of Dallas, Texas; her daughters: Alberta Randle and Ruth Hill both of Portland, Oregon; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Odessa will truly be missed.
