In Loving Memory
Ophelia Jean Nunley was born October 14, 1923 in Oklahoma, nee McCray, oldest daughter of Polly & Arthur McCray.
On January 29, 2015, our beloved, sweet & stylish Ophelia Nunley passed away peacefully at the age of 91 at home in Portland, Oregon. She grew up under the harshest of circumstances and survived with grace and courage.
She moved to Oregon during the 1940’s with her son James Earl while awaiting her husband Climmie’s return from WWII. During that wait she worked in the shipyards to support the war effort. After the war, she was employed at Portland International Airport, which led to her position at United Airlines. While at United, she worked in the flight kitchen, eventually earning the distinction of National Employee of the Month. She retired from United at the age of 69, after nearly twenty-five years of service. On the side, she invested wisely in real estate.
Ophelia is was preceded in death by her husband Climmie and three sons James Earl, Kenneth Wayne, Eric Paul and her brothers & sister, O.C. McCray, O.D. McCray and Eva Mae Brown.
She is survived by her sister Olivia Joyce Bradley her son Anthony James, Daughter-in-Law Thelisa Nunley, her grandchildren Alisa Benjamin, Kenisa Nunley, Alexandria Nunley-Wegman, Pirmin Nunley. Her many nieces, nephews and cousins also, mourn her loss. She was member and dedicated supporter at Vancouver Baptist Church since coming to Portland.
Her kindness, generous and loving spirit will live forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
