Peggy passed away of Parkinson's disease at Summerplace Assisted Living Community surrounded by her family and friends. a memorial service will be held at St. Aiden's Episcopal Church in Gresham on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:00AM
Peggy A. Smutz was born in Clyde, Kansas. She was the youngest child with three sisters and a brother. Peggy attended nursing school in Kansas City and later joined the Navy as a nurse in San Diego, California. Following her Navy service she returned to school at University of Colorado where she earned a B.S. in nursing. While working as a nurse in the student health center at the university she met Malcolm Brewer, a premed student, and they married shortly after. They settled in Oregon after medical school and Dr. Brewer established the Gateway Ophthalmology Clinic where Peggy was a nurse alongside her husband for many years. Peggy and her family always enjoyed boating and spent many summers cruising in the Pacific Northwest with a tremendous love for the San Juan Islands. Peggy and Malcolm were members of Portland Yacht Club fore many years.
Peggy is preceded in death by two sisters, Fran Gilley and Ruthie Burgess; and a brother, John Smutz
Peggy is survived by her husband Malcolm; son Paul and his wife Barbara; son Brent and his wife Ellie; two grandchildren Jordan and Courtney; and sister Mary Anderson (Michigan).
