Funeral Services will be held, 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 18th at the chapel of Rose City Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Rose City Cemetery.
Phyllis Darcel Lathan was born to the union of Mr. Harold & Mrs. Velma Lathan on April 8, 1961 in Portland, Oregon. As a young girl, she attended Martin Luther King Elementary, Stevenson Grade School, Capitol Hill Middle School and Grant High School.
Phyllis got her first job working with her cousin Arnella , she later became a Care Provider at Dales Care Center where she worked with the elderly. Phyllis followed the footsteps of her mother and joined New Hope Baptist Church where she was a member for several years. She joined the choir and often took lead in many of the songs. Phyllis was well known for her beautiful voice and could often be found singing not only in church but in her mother’s basement
After the death of her eldest sister Carol, Phyllis made it a point to help her mother raise her niece Jonicia up until her death. Although Phyllis never had children of her own that never stopped her from playing mom to her nieces and nephews. Phyllis was adamant that her great nephew Damare and great nieces Draia and Danielle were her babies. She loved to give them gifts and tell anyone that would listen how much she loved those three. She could be found spending a lot of time on the phone with all three kids.
Phyllis met her love Stanley Hennon and married him on March 20, 2004. The two could often be found at Mallory Church of Christ singing in their choir and eating at her mom’s house. In her past time she loved; being with her husband, reading her favorite scriptures, attending events that her great nieces and nephews were a part of, watching Judge Judy and Maury. Phyllis enjoyed singing songs around the house especially Aretha Franklin or Patti LaBelle. Phyllis was a great woman with wide open arms; she was willing to help anybody if she could.
