Rebecca Jane Rodgers

February 20, 1935 — May 2, 2017

Ms. Rebecca Jane Caldwell Rodgers, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday May 2, 2017.  Ms. Rodgers, a native of Portland,

Oregon, is survived by her sister, The Rev. Alcena Boozer; brother Gerald Caldwell; daughters Genevieve Rounds (Perry); daughter Marcelene Rodgers Brown; grandchildren: Brandon and Edward Chaney, Perry Rounds, Jr., Kai Rounds and Vernon Brown, Jr.; numerous cousins in Louisiana, and Texas; nephews and nieces; great and great-great nephews and nieces.

Ms. Rodgers was born February 20, 1935,  to Lawrence Edward Caldwell and Marcelene Guntz Caldwell.  She spent her early years living on N.E. Clackamas street, attending Holladay Park Elementary School and Washington High School.  She became so accomplished on the trumpet that Lionel Hampton asked her mother if he could take her on the road as a member of his band.

Ms. Rodgers was a lifelong member of St. Phillip the Deacon Episcopal Church.  Ms. Rodgers had a wonderful professional life, holding many positions.  Upon her high school graduation she was employed by Pacific N.W. Bell, as a telephone operator, she then worked at Crown Zellerbach.  Rebecca then went to work with the Corps of Engineers’.  In latter years Ms. Rodgers earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Management of Human Resources.  Ms. Rodgers worked numerous years in, social and counseling services and early childhood education.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday June 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Phillip the Deacon Church.
