Renee Amber Giroux passed away with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Renee was born in San Bernardino California, and grew up in Los Angeles. She graduated from Humboldt University with a bachelor degree in food and nutrition, and began her career at the Juneau Health Service in Juneau, Alaska, before moving to Oregon in 1980 for further studies at Oregon State University. She became a registered dietician in 1983, after completing an internship at OHSU and began working in that capacity at Tuality Community Hospital. Her work as a dietician included 25 years of service at Providence Medical Center in Portland, where she was a diabetes educator and faculty member of the Internal Medicine Residency program when she passed away. She met her husband, Paul, while attending Humboldt State University and they were married when they moved to Oregon from Alaska in 1980. Their time living in Alaska was filled with adventures, including a 300-mile canoe trip down the Yukon River from Whitehorse to the gold rush town of Dawson City. She continued her adventurous lifestyle after moving to Oregon and enjoyed world travel, hiking the Cascades, walking around Portland, kayaking down Oregon’s many rivers and riding her bike up Rocky Butte just for fun. She has a robust network of friends to share her passion and zeal for textile weaving, stained glass crafting, gardening and outdoor activities. She was a past president of the Portland Handweavers Guild, an instructor at Roses Glassworks and hosted open gardens for the Garden Conservancy and Hardy Plant Society at her Portland home. Renee deeply loved her family and is survived by her husband, Paul, son Trevor ( Tirzah Joy ); grandsons, Tzadikai and Taevian; brother Orville Carl Wright; and his family. She was preceded in death by her father Orville Wright,; and mother, Amber, "Irene( Mahalyfi ) Burney. Renee was very supportive of Dr. Miles Hassell’s work in integrative medicine and it would honor her to have donations directed to it.
