Areta Belle Schmidt
March 14, 1927 – August 19, 2014
Areta was born in Portland to Percy L. and Bessie A. Lyle. Immediately after she finished High School, she went to work in the Portland ship yards as a welder on the Liberty Ships during WWII. Later in life, she taught English as a second language for 10 years at the Troutdale Job Corps. Having traveled many places, her frequent favorite was Costa Rica.
Great loves in her life were playing classical piano, oil painting, and her horses. Her passion for the outdoors was fulfilled by living over half a century in the Columbia Gorge. Areta is survived by her son Victor Schmidt.

Remembrance Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 6 at the Rose City Cemetery.
