Richard M (Dick) Bigness 93 of Portland passed away March 31st 2019 in Sandy. Born June 24th 1925 to Norwegian immigrants Halton and Madeline Bigness. He was the oldest of three children followed by Betty (Higgins) and Glenn Bigness. Dick postponed graduating high school to serve with the United States Merchant Marines during World War Two. He was assigned to the T-2 tanker Beuna Vista Hills in the South Pacific in 1945. In 1952 Dick met and soon thereafter married the love of his life, Carol Elaine Deering. Together they had three children, Karen, Rick and Ron. Dick and Carol taught their children patience and tolerance and how to love and laugh. Dick also loved music. He could be heard every night he was home playing his electric Fender guitar that he bought new in 1964 and played until shortly before his death. Dick was a salesman with Traffic Safety Supplies but also gave guitar lessons in his spare time. He was also an avid golfer. Dick is preceded in death by his wife Carol, sister Betty and daughter Karen. He leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and the memory of being a generous, kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor. He will be missed.
