Richard Erwin Goemmel

January 25, 1936 — September 5, 2012

Richard Erwin Goemmel, age 76, left us to be with his Lord and Savior on Sept 5, 2012 at Portland Adventist Hospital in Portland, OR. He was born in Portland in 1936 and lived there for the last 50 years.
He was a graduate of Grant High in 1953 and in 1956 he married, and is survived by, his sweetheart Shirley Joan Leon. He attended the University of Washington and the Northwest College of Law. After serving in positions for Sears Robuck and Co. and Allstate Insurance, he purchased the Golden Insurance Agency in the Hollywood District of Portland. He completed his professional career as a managing partner with Fullerton and Company Insurance Agency.
Richard (Dick) was dedicated to his community by being a life member of the Gateway Elks Lodge. He also served additional terms as the President of the Board of Directors for Summerplace Homeowners Association where he and his long-time bride enjoyed many good times with close friends.
Always an adventurer, he earned a private pilot's license as his late father did early in life. He enjoyed boating with Shirley by exploring the local waterways and up and down the Pacific coast as members of the Columbia River Yacht Club where he served as Commodore in 1984. Furthering his adventuresome spirit, he took to the nation's highways with the Monaco Motor-coach Club visiting nearly every state in the union.
Dick was a prolific and extraordinary thespian having acted in television, movies and print media. He was a dedicated family man, loving husband and dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was marvelous with words, a promoter of people and was a true gentleman to all that knew him.
In addition to his loving wife Shirley, Richard is survived by his sons; Jeffrey, Steven and Daniel Goemmel, daughters-in-law; Karen and Gail Goemmel, grandchildren; Jillian Carlson, Julie Cyr, Ryan Goemmel, Jaime Clark as well as Michael, Sara, Brittney and Nicole Goemmel, great grandchildren; Madeline and Ryder Cyr, Makayla and Kayden Carlson, and Easton Clark.
A private family committal service will be at Rose City Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to celebrate his life on September 16 at 11am at the Summerplace Recreation Center, located at 2020 NE 150th Ave, Portland, OR.
