Robert W. Smith

Hobson and Nora Smith moved their young family from Alabama to Washington state in the early 40's.  Several years later they moved to Salem, Oregon.  Bob attended school there...graduating from Cascade High school, and continuing his education at Willamette University.  He met his future wife Gwen there.

They married between semesters his senior year since Bob had to begin pilot training right after graduation. As his Mother always said, he had wanted to fly airplanes since    he was 4 years old. That was the beginning of a rewarding, exciting and adventurous 26 year military career for himself and his family.  He retired from the Air Force in 1986 after achieving the rank of Colonel with many honors. Retirement didn't last long.  He began his second career at SAIC (Science Aplications International Corp.)             He enjoyed working with them for many years.

Bob peacefully passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2017

He will forever be loved and missed by his wife (of 58 years), Son Kevin (Theresa), their sons, Zachary & Tyler. Daughter Stacey, her sons Brandon (Ashley) & Alex five great grandchildren: Jaxon & Jamie Isabella, Priscilla & Mason his 3 sisters: Marcelene (Glenn), Jane (Warren} and Patricia, also by his many extended family members and friends.
