Robert Edward Stephens

Robert E. Stephens Sr. was born February 24th, 1942 in Linden, Texas to
Hive Stephens and Elvira (Allen) Stephens. Robert’s education was acquired
in Linden, Texas and continued when he moved to Portland, Oregon in 1961.
He went to Portland Community College and earned an Associates Degree in
Accounting.
Robert met his wife, Pat (Monroe), in 1961 on a blind date, which his cousin
Earl Mitchell arranged. They got married March 14th, 1964. From that union
they had two sons, Robert E. Stephens Jr. and Roderic Stephens.
Robert was a member of Vancouver Baptist Church when he first came to
Portland. After marrying Pat, he became a member of Mt. Sinai Community
Baptist Church, now Genesis Community Fellowship. As a member of
Genesis Community Fellowship, Robert served as a Deacon/Elder of the
church, was a part of the Usher Board, and involved in the Men’s Ministry.
Robert worked for Allied Plating Corporation for some years before he was
employed with American National Insurance Company. He worked as an
insurance agent for 28 years before retiring in 2005. During his retirement he
enjoyed going for walks in the community, bowling, watching sports, judge
shows, and Cops, and occasionally making his delicious banana pudding.
Robert was preceded in death by his father Hive Stephens and his mother
Elvira Stephens. He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Pat Stephens, of 56
years; sons, Robert Stephens Jr. and Roderic Stephens; four grandchildren,
Ashley (Benjamin) Mullen, Alexander (Gabrielle) Stephens, Montel Miller,
and Auzurea (Micheal) Caples.
Great Grandchildren - Zion, Imani, Imari, Zuri Mullen, Bailey, Sydney and
Emory Stephens.
Sisters - Zel Marie Ramsey, Lorene Minor, Ivory Taylor, Mary Frazier,
Dennis, Martha Martin, Enora Gould, Lenora Cason, Carolyn Stephens and
Marilyn (Robert) Conner.
Brothers - Morris, Richard, Gerald and Tommy Stephens.
Along with a host of sister and brother-in-laws and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins and
close friends.
