Robert Gilbert Winike

Robert Gilbert "Rob" Winike died peacefully in the loving company of his wife, Judy. He was the oldest of eight, born and raised in Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Thomas Winike and Corinne Del Principe; and sister, Janice.

He earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism and English from Northern Illinois University in 1971. He taught Journalism at Joliet Central High School. Rob married Jane Denunzio in 1970 and they moved to Portland, where they raised their children Robin, Tyler and Lindsay Jane. Rob worked as a substitute teacher in Lake Oswego and Beaverton while pursuing his love of writing, which led to a career in technical writing.

In 1993 Rob met Judy Daniels and they married in 1999. They became members of the Neo-Catechumenal Way through their parish church, St. Rose of Lima in Portland.

Rob was a co-founder of the Northwest Wolf Preservation Society, volunteered at the homeless shelter in St. Johns and was also involved with Oregon Writers Colony and Enneagram. He was a grateful member of the Loyola Men's Group. Most recently, Rob was a leader and board member of Recovery International and was part of the Prison Ministry at Donald E. Long Home.

He was creative, witty, deeply religious, a movie buff and in his later years turned his garage into a slot car and model train play land for his grandchildren.

Rob helped so many people and gave generously of his time, talents and treasures. He will be missed by so many, his siblings, Steve, Tom, Phyllis, Holly, Tony and Lori; his many nieces and nephews; and most especially by his son, Robin (Karli); daughter, Lindsay; grandchildren, Tyler, Kayla, Baby Amelia, Hadley, Celia, Alex, Noel; and his soulmate, Judy.

A memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 28, 2018, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to St. Vincent de Paul- St. Rose Conference.
