Sherrill Lyn Whittemore

August 6, 1942 — May 1, 2009

Sherrill Whittemore was born in Rexburg, Idaho to Don E. Whittemore, Sr. and
Ruth Ragan Whittemore. She died peacefully with her husband and sister at
her side after a long illness due to breast cancer and diabetes.

Sherrill's father and mother preceded her in death. Sherrill is survived by
her husband Darrell Clukey, son Daniel Clukey (Wyemy Tolosa), brother Don
Whittemore, Jr. (Connie), sister Jean Marshall (William), stepson Robert
Clukey (wife Diane and daughter Makenna), nieces and nephews and their
children.

Sherrill earned her master's degree at the University of Nebraska then moved
to Monmouth, Oregon where she worked for the Teaching Research Division of
the Oregon University System. There she met Darrell and they were married
in1972. In 1974 Sherrill and Darrell bought their home in Portland where
they lived for 35 years. Daniel was born in 1980, giving his mom great joy.

Sherrill worked as a program evaluator and systems analyst for the City of
Portland and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. She retired in 2001
after directing Portland's Bureau of Emergency Communications for six years.
She spent the rest of her life coping with chronic health issues, although
she and Darrell were able at times to travel by car. This was one of her
favorite activities. During their life together, they drove on vacation
trips throughout the west and mid-west. Sherrill especially loved the
Cascade Mountain peaks and the Grand Tetons of Wyoming. When Sherrill wasn't
working or traveling, she read. She was a voracious reader. She was fond of
many subjects and read widely. As her health deteriorated and reading became
difficult, she watched videos on the subjects she enjoyed the most.

Sherrill liked a good discussion, especially on politics and history. She
relished the stories of English royalty and those of our modern presidents.
One time she stood in a bookstore discussing Franklin Roosevelt point by
point with a complete stranger for an hour because he happened to say
something to her about Roosevelt that she didn't quite agree with. She and
Darrell laughed often about this encounter.
