Shirley was born to George and Naomi Smith in Toledo, Oregon
Oct. 17,1928. She died in Vancouver, Washington. on October 30, 2020.
She attended Siletz grade school graduating in 1942. Upon her father's death her Mother moved the family to Portland. Eventually remarrying, the entire family's name was changed to Mather.
Shirley graduated from Franklin High School in 1946. Almost immediately she went to work for a company that was a lumber broker, owned a public dock, and represented various steamship lines. She also worked for a stevedore company until finally retiring from the industry in 1993.
She was a 20 year volunteer at Albertina Kerr working as a cashier in Albertina's restaurant. She enjoyed reading, golf, bridge, crossword puzzles, and playing Scrabble. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Jim, and daughter Cheryl. Survivors include her brother Roy, brother-in-law John, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
At her request no service will be held. Disposition by cremation with ashes to be scattered at the coast.
