Sue left us suddenly after a fall down the stairs in the new house she and her beloved husband, Christopher Buhle, had just purchased.
Sue was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, where she attended Laurelhurst Grade School and James Monroe High School, graduating in 1972. She went on to attend O.S.U. where she was a 4.0 math major. During college, Sue was diagnosed with a rare eye disorder, that lead to total blindness in her thirties.
After college, Sue worked for First Interstate Bank with a brief stint in Texas. Not finding Texas to her liking, she came back to Portland where she worked for First Interstate utilizing computer-aided audio software provided by the Blind Commission. She continued to work for First Interstate until they closed their Oregon offices. Not wishing to relocate, Sue went back to school and re-invented herself as a Licensed Massage Therapist and Reiki Master opening Blind Faith Bodywork where she practiced massage with nurturing compassion and respect for her clients. At this same time, Sue developed a great respect and love for Yoga which she practiced and endorsed wholeheartedly. During these years, Sue met and married John Moke and survived him when he succumbed to cancer.
In addition to being compelled to help other through her healing hands, Sue loved music. She took vocal lessons for her own personal enjoyment and would be the first to break the ice at local performances throughout Portland where she delighted audiences with her wit and bravado.
On February 4, 2007, she and Chris Buhle were wed in a small ceremony at her home in the Hawthorne district. The loss of someone so loving, compassionate and giving, will be felt by all that knew her. In addition to her wonderful husband, Sue is survived by her parents Earl and Lola Redding; her sister Kathie Steele; her brother John Redding and his wife Denise; her niece Alyssa McCartney with her husband Todd and Sue's great nephew Grant; her niece Kailyn Speer with her husband Dan; and her two nephews Dan Redding and Jason Redding with his wife Kaylee. Sue also leaves two stepchildren: Shawn Buhle and Jennifer Bedell with her husband Steve. And finally, Sue leaves behind the many lives she has touched throughout the years in family, friends, musical comrades and clients. Her wonderful spirit weaved through a community of people. Everyone who met her was impressed by her insight and awareness.
Services will be held at 1:00P.M., Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Rose City Funeral Home, 5625 N.E. Fremont St., Portland, OR. In lieu of flowers, Sue would appreciate donations be made to any organization benefiting the blind.
