OBITUARY
Sybil Hardwick was born in Homer Louisiana on March 15, 1911 into the union of Lewis Talton Merritt and Lucinda P. Merritt. She graduated from Claiborne Parish High School. Sybil was baptized at an early age. Sybil loved to sing. At age six she was the youngest in the youth choir ages sixteen and above. Sybil stood right in the middle of the choir where all could see her.
Sybil worked as an electrician during WWII. Sybil married Otis Hardwick, however, there were no children from this union of fifty years. When asked Sybil would say, “I guess my children are still in heaven.” Sybil joined Allen Temple during the early years of Allen Temple. She was a member of Missionary Board and the choir. She moved to Missouri with her husband due to relocation of his job. She returned to Oregon in the early eighties following her husband death. Sybil got the title of the oldest living active member at Allen Temple C.M.E. church. Her last attendance in church service was on her 104 th birthday.
She was a loving sister who gave up her independence to move with her younger sister Vethel into a nursing facility. After Vethel’s death in 2010 Sybil moved out of the nursing facility and into a private senior adult care home. Sybil departed this life on May 19, 2015 peacefully in her bed, at the senior home where she resided. The Lord allowed Sybil to get up, get dressed, and have breakfast that morning before calling her home.
Sybil is survived by her nephews, Willie D. Green Sr. and Snyder Milton Jr. and niece Jeneva H. McQueary; Great nephews: Willie D. Green Jr. and Leon Green and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
