Thelma Leslie Goff was born in Twin Falls, Idaho to Suzanne F. & Thomas L. Goff on Jan. 28, 1920. She lived and attended many schools as a child. She attended Commerce (Cleveland) High School and married Jack R. Dempsey on May 15, 1937 in Vancouver, WA.
Thelma's family and friends were the most important part of her life. Thelma's long involvement in the Pythian Sisters, Ivanette Temple #68 charitable services led her to becoming the Grand Chief of Oregon in 1984-1985.
She was the president of the Loafer League at Hollywood Bowl for 20 years. She was a former P.T.A. president at Llewellyn Grade School. Thelma enjoyed spending wonderful times with her family at her house at Black Butte Ranch, trips to Reno for tournaments, all sports but especially the Trail Blazers and the Oregon State Beavers.
Her husband of 63 years, Jack, preceded her in death in Aug. 2000, followed by her loving daughter Susann R. McDonald in June, 2001. She is survived by her loving daughters: Vicki Dempsey Fuerstenberg (Bruce) of Washougal, WA & Pamela J. Bullard of Portland, OR; Grandchildren: Kelly Miller, Chandler, AZ, Michael McDonald (Kathy) Mendocino, CA, Joey Fuerstenberg (Mary), Vancouver, WA, & Josh Fuerstenberg (Michelle) Battle Ground, WA; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Thelma was lovingly care for by the staff at Emerson House where she died peacefully Dec. 11, 2009.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Rose City Funeral Home, 5625 NE Fremont St. Portland. Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Assn., the American Cancer Society, or Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
