In loving memory of Vera (Connie) Stupers
Born in Bandung, Indonesia, Connie grew up with her 2 sisters (Lottie and Ilse) and 2 brothers (Erich and Humphrey). As a child growing up in the islands, she survived the Japanese occupation of Indonesia during WWII. After the liberation of the islands, the family left Indonesia for Holland.
In Holland is where she met her husband, Frederik. They married in 1953. Their eldest daughter, Maria (Patty), was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, in February 1958.
In the early 1960’s, Fred, Connie and Patty immigrated to the United States. Their port of entry was in Buffalo, NY where that first cold winter was more than they could handle so off to warmer climates, moving to California, before settling in Oregon. After spending time in Mt Angel, the family finally made Portland their home. In Portland, Connie and Fred had their second daughter, Monique in August 1968.
Connie held several jobs in the early years starting out in the United States, and found her calling at Tektronix. After over 30 years at Tek, she retired.
Prior to her retirement, she enjoyed the summers and all the camping trips with her family, granddaughter, Audra and the other Indo families. Camp grounds throughout Oregon were filled with laughter and great smells of all the Indo food being cooked for our meals.
Summertime was also the time that brought on the long drives down to southern California, all crowded into the red panel station wagon. CALIFORNIA HERE WE COME……………
Connie and Fred were also known for their great parties. The house was filled with so much laughter, the dance floor in the basement crowded, music playing and the table covered with food.
During her retirement she enjoyed weekend trips to the beach, camping trips to La Pine and spending time with her great grandkids, Jacob and Bella.
Connie was quick to help someone in need and offer support if that meant just listening on the phone for an hour or two, she didn’t mind. Connie was a dedicated person to both job and family. She was patient and always saw the best in everyone and never let negative influences bring her down. Her cackling laugh always filled the room with warmth.
She will be remembered for not only being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, but also an awesome cook. She is now with Fred, sitting on God’s front porch, watching over all of us.
Our family wants to thank everyone for your warm wishes and heart filled thoughts.
