Viola (Anderson) Christiansen
January 15, 1918 — February 18, 2011
Viola was born on January 15, 1918 in Portland, Oregon to Axel and Minnie Anderson. She had two sisters who were also two of her closest friends, Evelyn Lott and Peggy Larson. She attended Beach Elementary School and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1936. After high school she worked for the late Senator Holman in Portland and Washington D.C. In
1946 she married Stanley Christiansen. They had three children:
Daniel, James and Nancy. Stanley passed away in 1972. Viola went home to be with her Lord on February 18, 2011 at the age of 93.
Viola was first of all a homemaker, but as her children got older she went back to work as a teachera�(TM)s aide at Sunnyside Elementary School, where her children had attended and where she had been involved in PTA. After retirement she babysat her grandchildren. Viola was an active member of Temple Baptist Church her entire life. She taught Sunday School, was involved in women's ministries, served as a deaconess and sang in the choir. She also served on the board of the Oregon Baptist Retirement Home for many years. Viola was known for her hospitality. She opened her home for countless church meetings, family gatherings and holiday celebrations.
Viola's life was spent serving others: her family, her friends, her church and her God.
Viola is survived by her sons Daniel and James and her daughter Nancy Drinnon. In addition to her children she is survived by eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service in celebration of Viola's life will be held on Saturday, March 12 at 11:00 AM at Temple Baptist Church, NE 7th and Clackamas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to a memorial fund in Viola's name at Temple Baptist Church.
