Violet Mary Messinger

Violet Mary Mundy Messinger, age 99, of South Bound Brook, NJ, passed away on May 29, 2022, in Portland, OR. She was admitted to the hospital on the morning of her birthday and peacefully passed two days later, shortly before being moved to hospice care.

Violet is survived by her daughter Debra, her grandchildren Craig and his wife Liz, Jennifer and her husband Aaron, her granddaughter Sophia, her nephew Gary and his wife Gail, her nieces Nancy and her son Derek, Cheryl and her husband and family, her Nephew Mark and family and her cousin Tommy and family…

Violet grew up in South Bound Brook, NJ and was predeceased by her parents Armond Sr. and Mary Mundy, her sister Isabelle, brothers Valentine and Armond Jr. and her husband and love of her life, Robert Messinger. In her younger years, Violet enjoyed spending time with friends, attending live music concerts in NYC, dancing and enjoying time at American Legion events with her husband. After marrying, she tried long to have a child and was happy to become a mom, dedicating her time to raising her daughter and caring for the home. After her husband’s passing, Violet enjoyed new friends, inserted herself into the workforce, and then, later became a caregiver to both the elderly and the young in her neighbourhood. After giving up the family home in South Bound Brook and relocating to California, she joined her daughter helping to run a home childcare program and enjoyed building relationships with the families and children for many years. Violet loved people. She loved to socialize! She enjoyed cats and kids and cleaning. She loved keeping things tidy and cared about her appearance. And, best of all, Violet made everyone who knew her laugh at her corny jokes and smile at her quick wit. We are so blessed that she kept her sense of humour right up until the end. Her last words were “The old grey mare ain’t what she used to be.” That sums up her life…joking to the end. Our family is grateful to know that Violet, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, wife and friend is finally at peace. Violet, your presence brought joy to all who had the privilege of knowing you. You will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at Bound Brook Cemetery on June 11, 2022 at 10:45 am. Please join us.
