William Marshall Cortes was born on January 13, 1956 in Middletown, New York to William White Cortes and Jean Marshall Cortes. His parents subsequently moved to the Poconos Lakes region of Pennsylvania where he attended high school and made many life-long friends. He later moved to the Tampa, Florida area where he acquired his deep lifelong love for Southern Rock music (to the bemusement of his West Coast cousins) and then moved to the Portland Oregon area, which he made his home.
Bill worked hard throughout his life, never more than at the game of golf at which he became exceedingly proficient, as his best friends in Portland all know. But for Tiger Woods, perhaps the world might have known more about Billya(TM)s game. His residence address was almost an afterthought; his real home, in spirit and in person most days and weekends, was Rose City Golf Course in Portland Oregon.
But Bill also put tremendous effort into work, sometimes juggling as many as three jobs at a time to support his passion for golf, which sometimes included winter tours of Southern California courses. Working weekends and evenings detailing autos, working days at several different jobs, and filling in any other spare time with other jobs, including delivering pizzas with his good friends at Dominoa(TM)s, Bill was never idle. His work ethic left friends and relatives in amazement. Especially because his golf game never faltered no matter how hard he worked.
Bill passed away on February 20, 2011 at the age of 55. He is survived by his cousin Nancy Alexandra Cortes, her children Ian and Ava Molloy in Carlsbad, California of whom he was particularly fond, his cousin William Patrick Cortes of Bellevue, Washington and his aunt by marriage, Joan Whitstock Cortes of Bellevue Washington on his fathera(TM)s side of the family, and several other cousins (still being located at the date of this writing) on his mothera(TM)s side of the family. He is also survived by many close friends in Portland, Oregon who are dismayed at his passing and will miss him greatly. Billy will remain in our hearts forever.
