William M. Campbell, 4/13/1938 - 1/13/2016
William Campbell, born to Frances Heron and James Campbell in 1938 in Portland, Oregon, passed away January 13, 2016. Bill graduated from Jefferson High School in 1956; from University of Oregon in 1961; and then obtained two Master’s degrees from George Washington University. He joined the Foreign Service in 1967 and served for thirty years as a U.S. diplomat in countries around the world. He officially retired in 1996 and worked in temporary duty positions with the Africa Bureau at the U.S. State Department until 2004. He retired to Sunriver, Oregon, but never lost that wandering spirit and sense of adventure. He is survived by Susan Jackson, his partner of 20 years, his children Kevin, Chris, Caitlin and Shannon Campbell, their spouses, his ex-wife Diana Doering, and a gaggle of grandchildren who adored their grandpa’s great humor and kindness. May he keep traveling the world and spreading his light. He will be greatly missed. Donations may be made in his honor to the Sunriver Nature Center, Sunriver, Oregon. A Celebration of Life will be held August 13, 2016 in Sunriver.
